Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. Mitchell joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington the following year, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News a year later. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief of the congressional reporters. When she joined NBC News in 1992, Mitchell was made to be the chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 she became the chief foreign affairs correspondent in NBC News. Mitchell was a presenter and a panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for outstanding achievement in the field of journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first reported on at the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988 throughout both Ronald Reagan's terms as President. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy stories such as arms control, budget tax reforms and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went on numerous summits as part of the president Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
