Early life and education Tolman is the oldest of two siblings and a younger sibling. The family relocated to England when she was a few months old and stayed until she was 4 years old. After spending five years in Oklahoma, she moved into Sugar Land. As a ten-year-old actress, she began acting in the Fort Bend Community Theatre. Clements High School was her high school and she graduated in 2000. Baylor University awarded her a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree in theatre performances. Following college, she relocated to Dallas and was among the first actors of Second Thought Theatre. The year 2009 saw her relocated from Chicago, Illinois, to learn about acting in The Second City Training Center. Tolman rose to fame during 2014 when Tolman appeared on FX's Fargo. Fargo is an adaptation of 1996 Coen brother's film by the same name. It stars veterans Bob Odenkirk, Martin Freeman, and Billy Bob Thornton. Tolman's performance as Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson was praised by Vanity Fair, who wrote: "She calmly and confidently stole the whole production". Critics' Choice Television Award, Best Supporting Actress (Movie/Miniseries) as well as Golden Globe nominations were announced for Tolman's role. The same year, it was also announced Tolman was set to play a 2-episode guest role on The Mindy Project as Abby Berman, a romance writer. It premiered in September 2019, but it was canceled after a season that ended on May 21, 2020. She guest starred on NBC's Good Girls. In 2021 she was Alma Filcott in season two of Why Women Kill.
